garden home rummer

Oregon Modern // Custom Tract-Housing

Location

Beaverton (Garden Home) , Oregon

The Garden Home Neighborhood of Beaverton borders the west side of Portland and is the largest concentration of Rummer home's built. This was the first plot built by Bob Rummer in the early to mid 60's. Some stardard homes are mixed in towards the eastern side of the neighborhood as Bob sold some of the land to finish builing his homes. Nearly every style is represented there, including the complete custom one he built for him and his wife Phylis.

Concept

MCM Family Housing

Based on Eichlers built in the LA and South Bay area of California. Most of Bob's' designs were based on A. Quincy Jones, Claude Oakland, & Frederick Emmons. Unlike Eichler's that tended to have a single car garage, a single bathroom in a 4 bedroom house, and interior designs that favored looks over use; Bob's interpretation had double garages, two bathrooms at a minimum, and interiors designed to be more condusive to practical family living. While his homes may look simular, each one is slightly different.
